Food & Drink Stain Removal:
No matter how careful you or your family members are, over time you may get food stains in your furniture’s upholstery. Although worrisome when it happens, if you act quickly when food or drink is spilled, you should be able to prevent stains from setting in. If the stain is fresh and still wet, immediately use a clean, white dish towel or rag to blot and soak up as much of the spill as you can from the upholstery. (White is important as it will not transfer any color to your furniture.) To remove the remaining spill, mix a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid or even laundry detergent with two cups of cold water and apply it liberally to the spot. Apply as much as you need until you see the stain disappear. If the spill contains red, orange, or purple dyes like those found in juices, you should add a tablespoon of white vinegar. For older stains, let the solution work for about 30 minutes before blotting. You may have to repeat this treatment for stains from bright colored foods or drinks.
Spot Removal from a Fabric Couch:
You may have stains or spots on a fabric sofa or couch that have set in over time. In many cases, these can be removed successfully. The first thing to do is vacuum the couch so as not to actually rub in dirt while you’re trying to remove the spot. Mix about two cups of distilled water with a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid (it helps break up any grease in the spot) and a tablespoon of vinegar. Dampen a clean, dry sponge, a white dish towel, or microfiber cloth with your solution and blot the entire stain gently and repeatedly until the stain lifts. To remove any of the soap from the upholstery, blot the area with just water, the press a paper towel or clean, dry cloth to the area repeatedly to absorb the remaining moisture.
Pet Stain & Odor Removal:
Pets love to jump up on furniture, and frequently, they leave their mark by peeing on the upholstery. There are some simple things you can do to get the stain and odor out. One technique is to pour some vinegar onto the stained area. Use a generous amount so it works down into the upholstery to get at the deeper urine stain, then pour a small amount of baking soda on the vinegar soaked area. The combination of the vinegar and baking soda will react together to neutralize the odor and lift the stain. Let the stained area dry for 1-2 days, use a vacuum upholstery attachment or a clean towel to remove the excess baking soda.
